For a science project this year we were going to look at the science that is involved in cooking. We were going to look at like some of the different elements in different ingredients and how things sort of combine. We were going to do a few different projects like this, some would be where we all do the same sort of theme or where we just make our own recipe. Since this was the first one that we did we decided that it would be sort of an experimental project so we were just able to think of a recipe and create it, it didn’t really need to have any science aspect.
The first thing we did was pick our groups. We didn’t really do it how we usually do where we work with people that we haven’t worked with. This time we just put four circles on the board and people put there names into the different circles and those were your groups. The different groups were: John, Trevor and David; Tatiana, Charlie and Sofia; Tati and Anthony; and Max, Sydney and I. Once we got into our groups we just talked for a few minutes on what recipes we wanted to look into. For my group we just thought up right away that it would be interesting to look at the different flavors with a hamburger. Max suggested that we try to do sort of a hawaiian hamburger where there is pineapple and teriyaki sauce. Max also wanted to experiment with blue cheese but when we went to the market there wasn’t the kind we needed. These were the different ideas for each group which were, John, Trevor and David making pizzas. Tati and Anthony making burritos. Sofia, Charlie and Tatiana making tamales. Once all the groups found out what they would need for their recipe we took a mini-field trip down to the La Jolla Shores market and got all of the things we needed. Unfortunately the market is small so to get somethings like meat Carwai had to go to a nearby Vons to pick up the other ingredients.
Once everyone had their ingredients we had a day where everyone would cook there different recipes. We spent the whole first chunk of the day cooking our delectable foods and for lunch we all sat down at the table and tried everyones different foods.
My opinion on that project was that it was really fun and that I liked the cooking aspect of it. Because this was the first one that we did I thought that it was kind of nice that we didn’t have to involve science in our cooking but, since we’re doing this again I think that it would actually make it a learning experience if it involved some science,
