Cold War Espionage Reflection

For our sort two week project in humanities I decided to do a sort of add on to my previous project. My previous project was about the Cold War and I had worked with Max and Trevor and we had each studied a different war that the US was involved in. What brought me to the idea of this project was when I was showing my essay and my video to my dad he was looking at it and said that I keyed in on some of the very important events that went on during that but, that I had also left out a very important event. The event that I had left out was the Cold War Espionage. So for my two week project I decided that I would right a short quick essay on what went on with the espionage and about the two different groups that were orchestrating what the different sides were doing. Those groups were: for the United States the CIA and for the Soviets the KGB.

For the last project that I did I created an essay about the Cold War and a documentary about the Cold War. Since this project was only a two week project where as the other one was about six weeks, I decided that I would only compose and essay talking about the Espionage. What I ended up doing was researching both groups first. I started with the CIA and then the KGB. I found it difficult to keep on task with this research because many of the sites didn’t have very much information and was very biased to one side and only really talked about how great the US was and how terrible the Soviets were. Once I had some information on those two groups I decided to look up some of the famous or infamous spy rings. The only really main group I could find was the KGB ring of spies called, The Cambridge Five. This was a group of spies who were pretending to work for the British government but were relaying the information back that the US was giving the British to the Soviets.

Even though this project was very interesting, it was one of those projects where it is good to go back and read some of the sites that you looked at and see if you missed anything and make sure that you completely understand what the whole event was actually about. I also think that I could have spent my time a little better because I kept on thinking, “Oh, I still have plenty of time to right my essay.” But, when the due date was about four days away I only had a little bit of my essay done and when I tried to find time on the weekend to work on it found that it was difficult because we had a lot of family visiting and had a lot of other events that were going on. Even though it was only a quick project, I feel I could have gotten more out of my subject than I did and that I should try and mange my time a little better.
